The Coordinates tab in the RockWorks Project Settings is used to view the current coordinate system under which the project is set up. All models, maps, diagrams, and scenes will be generated using this coordinate system.
If the Coordinates pane is not visible, click the small button to the left of the project folder name. This toggles between "+" (expand) and "-" (hide) the Project Settings tabs.
Option Summary
- Coordinates: These are established when you first create your project.
The system shown here must represent the same coordinate system (such as UTM) as your borehole locations entered into the Borehole Manager database.
Your Datasheets can contain spatial coordinates in any of the supported coordinate systems; RockWorks will convert them during mapping and modeling. For example, if your map locations are entered into the datasheet in longitude and latitude coordinates, they'll be converted to your output UTM Meters to build your map.
- Reassign: Use this button if you want to set the project to a different coordinate system but not change any of your existing data. (More info)
Example: The borehole coordinates are in UTM meters, zone 13 but you mistakenly chose zone 12 when setting up your project. Use the Reassign button to relabel the project coordinates as zone 13. None of the data will change, but RockWorks will know the correct zone for your data.
- Reproject: Use this button to set the project to a different coordinate system and reproject your existing borehole coordinates to the new system. (More info)
Example: Your project and your data represent UTM meters, zone 13, but your client needs all output in State Plane feet, Colorado Central zone. Use the Reproject button to change the project coordinate system to State Plane Colorado Central, units = feet, AND to reproject all of your borehole coordinates - changing the actual numbers - to the new system.
- Decimals:
- Choose Automatic to have the program automatically determine the number of decimal places to store for your X and Y coordinates, based on the coordinate system you are using.
- Choose Manual to define the number of decimal places yourself.
- Global settings for information about settings which apply to all projects in RockWorks.
