Computing Lineation Bearing, Length, and/or Midpoint

RockWorks | Utilities | Linears | 2D Endpoints - Bearing, Etc.

This program is used to compute the bearing, length, and/or midpoint of lineations listed in the main datasheet as X1 Y1 X2 Y2 line endpoint coordinates. The computed values are stored in separate columns in the main datasheet.

Menu Options
Step-by-Step Summary

  1. Access the RockWorks Datasheet program tab.
  2. Create a new datasheet and enter or import your line endpoint data (X1Y1X2Y2).
Or, open one of the sample files and replace that data with your own. See Data Layout for datasheet examples.

! Click the Example button at the top of the window to load a sample file that is installed with the program.

  3. Select the Utilities | Linears | 2D Endpoints - Bearing, Etc. menu option.
  4. Enter the requested program settings, described above.
  5. Click the Continue button to proceed.

The program will compute the lineation bearings (from 0 clockwise to 360 degrees), and/or the lengths (in your X and Y coordinate units), and/or the midpoints for all of the lines in the data sheet, and it will store these computations in the selected column(s) in the datasheet.
