- First, read the What's New topic for changes since RockWorks17.
- Project Settings:
- Instead of the default Microsoft Access-compatible database (.MDB) RockWorks now uses a SQLite database (.SQLite).
- When you open an existing RockWorks16 project into RockWorks20x, you'll be walked through a wizard which will update the database to the new format and copy the data to an entirely-new project folder. We recommend putting these new copies of your RockWorks16 project folders into the "RockWorks Data" folder (in My Documents) but, of course, that's your choice.
- All of your program-generated files are fully compatible with RockWorks17, just remember to copy them all to the new project folder.
- RwDat files (Utilities datasheets)
- Rw2D files (RockPlot2D graphics)
- Rw3D files (RockPlot3D scenes)
- RwRpt files (ReportWorks documents)
- RwGrd files (grid models)
- RwMod files (solid models)
- Users with the Advanced level of the program can still connect to the same SQL-Server database you used in RockWorks16.
- Program Window Layout:
- The overall program window looks similar, but with a number of new features. See the Quick Tour topic for details.
- There's a new "Quick-Map" tab for a quick view of your borehole locations.
- The Project Dimensions pane is now accessible from the top of the program window. There you will see the current project coordinate system and units. There are relabeling and reprojection tools there.
- The Datasheet includes a Setup pane to the right where column types, coordinates, and other metadata are entered.
- The EarthApps have moved to the "Earth" menu (Utilities programs), and the "Animate" and "Images" menus (Graphics programs).
- RockWorks20x is a 64-bit program, requiring a 64-bit version of Windows. The program is installed into the C:\Program Files\RockWare folder.
- RockWorks still has a two-week trial period, with full funcitonality. It also now has additional feature levels:
- Free: RockPlot2D, RockPlot3D, ReportWorks. Free - you can encourage your co-workers and clients to install RockWorks to open/edit/save/print graphic files.
- Basic: Free viewers plus all of the programs in the Utilities, ModOps, and Graphics menus, plus the Borehole Manager database, borehole location maps and striplog diagrams. 5 Playlist items, 5 faults.
- Standard: Basic plus all of the Borehole Operations menus (all of the modeling tools). 8 Playlist items, 8 Faults.
- Advanced: Standard plus Command Scripts, support of SQL-Server databases, unlimited Playlist items, unlimited Faults, import commercial PLSS land grids.
