Convert the Files
Once you have the folders defined, the database converted, and the coordinates established, it's time to select the RockWorks15 data, model, and graphics files to be converted. You can convert the files in the current tab or in all tabs.
! RockWorks16 data, model, and graphics files don't need converting - they are compatible with RockWorks20xx.
Follow these steps:
- Click on the tab(s) for the file type(s) to be converted.
- Be sure the specific files you wish to convert to RockWorks20xx format are checked. You can use the Select All or Unselect All buttons to quickly check/uncheck all names in the current tab.
! By default all files in all tabs are checked.
! The file conversion process utilizes RockWorks Command Scripts. The number of items that can be processed in a single Command Script is determined by the feature level of RockWorks20xx that you have installed: Basic and Standard users can convert 5 files at a time. Advanced users can convert unlimited files at a time.
- Grid Model (grd) tab: Lists all of the RockWorks15 grid (surface) model files. These .GRD files will be converted to a RockWorks17 .RwGRD file type.
- Solid Model (mod) tab: Lists all of the RockWorks15 solid (block) model files. These .MOD files will be converted to a RockWorks17 .RwMOD file type.
- Data Sheet (atd) tab: Lists all of the RockWorks15 Utilities datasheet files. These .ATD files will be converted to a RockWorks17 .RwDAT file type.
- RockPlot2D (rk6) tab: Lists all of the RockWorks15 2D plot files (maps, cross sections, etc.) These .RK6 files will be converted to a RockWorks17 .Rw2D file type.
- RockPlot3D (r3dxml) tab: Lists all of the RockWorks15 3D plot files (block model, fence diagram, etc. scenes). These .RW3DXML files will be converted to a RockWorks17 .Rw3D file type.
- To convert the checked files in the current tab, click the Convert button specific to the current tab:
Convert Grids | Convert Models | Convert RwDAT | Convert Rw2D | Convert Rw3D
- Or, to convert the checked files in ALL TABS, click the Convert All button.
The RockWorks 15/16 File Converter will write a RockWorks Command Script file to convert the specified files, will launch RockWorks20xx if necessary, and will process the script to perform the conversion. The files will be resaved with the same file name but new file name extension in the output folder. The time required will be dependent on the number of files you've selected for conversion.
See the next topic for important notes about actually USING these files in RockWorks20xx.
