Lith/Strat/Well Const Tab: Set up Lithology, Stratigraphy, Well Construction, and More

LogPlot data files are really flexible in nature and can contain multiple datasheets of the same type. For example, they might contain a Lithology datasheet with soil descriptions, another Lithology datasheet with USCS codes, and another with formation names. Since RockWorks has only one Lithology data table and only one Stratigraphy table, you need to select which are to be imported, and where.

LogPlot may also contain multiple worksheets for Fracture, Water Level, Vector, Well Construction, and Orientation data. Use the prompts on this import tab to define which worksheets to import.

  1. Click on the Configure window's Lith/Strat/Well Const. tab.
  2. Lithology / Stratigraphy: Here you need to define whether data found in LogPlot Lithology datasheets are to be imported into a RockWorks "Lithology" table or "Stratigraphy" table.
In RockWorks, lithology data represents observed rock types. Intervals can repeat within a borehole (Sand, Clay, Sand, Clay) and do not need to be consistent in order between wells.
Stratigraphy data must be layered in format, without repeating intervals and consistent in order from top down in all borings. Stratigraphy can be thought of as interpreted lithology.
There are different tools in RockWorks for display and interpolating of lithology and stratigraphy data. (More info)

Lithology: If you want your LogPlot lithology data to be imported into the RockWorks Lithology table, select the lithology worksheet name under this prompt.
! Lithology keywords will be imported into the RockWorks "keyword" field.
Lithology descriptions will be imported into the "Comment" field in the RockWorks Lithology table. The Comment field is a "memo" field with no limit to content length.

Stratigraphy: If you want your LogPlot lithology data be imported into the RockWorks Stratigraphy table, select the lithology worksheet name under this prompt.
! Lithology keywords will be imported into the RockWorks "formation" field.
Lithology descriptions will be imported into the "Comment" field in the RockWorks Stratigraphy table. This field is not typically displayed in the Borehole Manager, but you can make it visible with the Tab Manager's Edit | Edit Fields option. The Comment field is a "memo" field with no limit to content length.

If you have multiple lithology listings in the LogPlot files, choose which are to be imported into which RockWorks tables. Only one LogPlot lithology block may be selected for the RockWorks Lithology table and one for the RockWorks Stratigraphy table.

  3. Fractures: Use this prompt to select a LogPlot Fractures worksheet to import into the RockWorks Fractures table.
  4. Water Levels: Use this prompt to select a LogPlot Water Levels worksheet to import into the RockWorks Water Levels (Aquifers) table.
  5. Vectors: Use this prompt to select a LogPlot Tadpole worksheet to import into the RockWorks Vectors table.
  6. Well Construction: Use this prompt to select a LogPlot Construction worksheet to import into the RockWorks Well Construction table.
  7. Orientation: Use this prompt to select a LogPlot Orientation worksheet to import into the RockWorks Orientation table.
  8. Click the Next button to proceed to the next step.
