RockPlot3D | View | Coordinate System
The View Coordinate System menu option is used to view the coordinate system and units represented in the scene. The coordinate system is defined automatically by RockWorks when the scene is generated.
If you have opened an older RockPlot3D scene (RockWorks15 and previous), in which coordinate systems were not defined, you can use this window to define the coordinate system manually.
! This simply identifies the coordinate system and units. If you need to change them (e.g. reproject them), use the Utilities | Convert Coordinates menu option.
- Horizontal (X,Y) Coordinates and Units
- Undefined: Choose this option if you don't know/don't care what the coordinate system is.
- Local: Choose this option if your scene's X and Y coordinates represent a local coordinate system, measured in feet or meters on a local grid.
- Longitude, Latitude: You can geo-reference your local coordinate system by entering the longitude and latitude coordinates in decimal degrees that exist at the local coordinate "origin" of 0,0. If you don't know these global reference coordinates, you can leave the Local Origin set to a Longitude of 0.00000 and a Latitude of 0.00000.
- Units: Choose whether the local coordinates represent measurements in Feet or Meters.
- SPC: Choose this option if your scene's X and Y coordinates represent a U.S. State Plane coordinate system.
- Zone: The State Plane systems are zone-specific, so you need to define the zone to which the coordinates apply. Click on the Zone button to see a reference map; choose the zone from the scrolling list to the right of the map.
- Units: Choose whether the State Plane coordinates represent measurements in Feet or Meters.
- UTM: Choose this if your scene's X and Y coordinates represent a UTM (Universal Transverse Mercator) projection.
- Datum: Click on this button to view the available datums.
- Zone: Click on this button to display an interactive map where you can click on the UTM Zone for the data.
- Units: Choose whether the UTM coordinates represent measurements in Feet or Meters.
- Other: Use this to define a custom coordinate system or to select a preset UTM Datum and Ellipsoid that are not listed in the standard datums above. See the Custom Projection topic for more information.
- Vertical (Z) Units: Choose Feet or Meters.
