Import Text Data - Get Ready and Select the Text File

1. Create your text file to be imported. This can be made from scratch in any application capable of generated text-only files, or it can be the result of exporting borehole data to text from RockWorks. See Text File Format for details about the file structure.
   
2. Start up RockWorks.
   
3. Create a new project if necessary.
   
4. Access the Borehole Manager program tab.
   
5. Select the File | Import | Text command.
   
6. The program will display a dialog box with several tabs. The first tab, File Selection, is where you will define the name of the file to import and other specifics.
   • Import Filename: Click on the open-file button to the right of this prompt to browse for the text file to be imported. This file does not need to be in the current project folder.

   • File Contains Column Titles: Insert a check here if the input file has a header line at the beginning of the data block.
   • 
     
     • Compare this first example (Files Contain Column Titles should be checked):

     • Bore  Depth-1 Depth-2 Lithology 
       DH-01 0.00    1.00    Concrete 
       DH-01 1.00    2.60    Gravel 
       DH-01 2.60    3.00    Sand (etc.)

     • with this example (Files Contain Column Titles should not be checked):

     • DH-01 0.00   1.00    Concrete 
       DH-01 1.00   2.60    Gravel 
       DH-01 2.60   3.00    Sand (etc.)

       Both of these formats, with and without header line, are acceptable.

   • Include the Data file name in the template: Check this box if you are saving the import settings into a "template" file and if the name (and path) of the file is to be included.
   • 
     
   • Template File: Use the Save As Template button at the bottom of the window to save the import settings to a file, so that if you need to run this again at a later time, the settings can be reloaded. This button is available from all of the tabs.
     • Click the Save As Template button.
     • In the displayed window, enter a name for the "XML" file which will be created, browsing to the desired folder.
     • Click the Save button.

   • Click the Next button to proceed to the next tab, or simply click the Block Selection tab at the top of the window.
