System Settings

Access the System Settings by clicking on the Options menu at the top of the LogPlot program window, and selecting System Settings.

• Show Hints: If this setting is checked, the program will display small explanations or hints about program buttons when you position the pointer over them.

• Show LogView Options with New LogView: When a log is first displayed in the LogView window, an Options pane is displayed along the right side. There you can adjust any of the display settings - depth intervals, scale, pagination, etc. You can show/hide this pane from within LogView. Use this setting to define whether the pane is displayed by default (option is checked) or not (unchecked).

• Create Log Design Previews: Check this box if you want the Log Designer window to create a JPG preview of Log Design Files (LDFX8 files) when they are saved. This can be helpful the next time you go to open a log design, since its preview can be displayed, helping you to confirm that you are opening the intended file. Remove this check-mark to disable this automatic preview creation. The preview files are saved in a "Previews" subfolder inside the folder where the LDFX8 file resides, with a naming convention filename.preview.jpg where filename is the name of the LDFX8 file.

• Show Log Design Previews: If you have requested that Log Designer create JPG previews, insert a check here to have these previews displayed, like a pop-up hint, when you use your mouse to point to an LDFX8 file name in the Project Manager.

• Log Design Backups: Each time you save a log design, LogPlot will save the previously-saved version as a backup. This can be helpful in case you make a mistake or there is a problem with the save process, etc. Use these settings to tell LogPlot where to save the log design backups. (The number of backups that will be saved before the oldest is discarded is defined under Backup Limit, below.)
• • Save to Current File Location: By default the backups are stored in a "Backups" sub-folder in the same directory where the log design resides. This typically works well, saving the backup copies in the same location as the active log design file.
  • Custom Location: We offer this option in case your log design files are quite large and/or you are saving across a network (such as a VPN) and the save process is very slow. This option will still save the log design in its current location, but now the backup copy of the log design will be saved in a designated location (such as a local folder) thus reducing the time required. Use the browse button to browse to the location where the backup copies are to be saved.
  • Don't Save: NOT RECOMMENDED. If you want to disable the saving of backup copies of your log designs, click this button. It will be your responsibility to make copies of your log designs for safe-keeping.

• File Backup Limit: Use this setting to define how many backup files will be stored for your data and design files. (default = 6) Each time you save the changes you have made to a data or design file, a backup copy is saved to a "Backups" sub-folder inside the folder where the data file resides, or to the user requested location (see above) for log design files. The backup files are named using the original file name with a number increment. The date shown with the file will be the date that version had been saved.

• Show Backup failure warnings: Leave this box checked to be notified of problems saving backups.

• Show RockWorks Options Dialog: Leave this setting turned on if you are saving borehole data back to a RockWorks database, and want to see a window where you can back up the database and access other data options prior to saving.

  If you have used the "Do not show this dialog next time" setting to hide the window, this System Settings checkbox can be used to turn it back on.

• Monitor Project Folder: Check this box if LogPlot should refresh automatically the files listed in the Project Folder pane along the left edge of the program window.
  ! If you are using LogPlot on a Macintosh computer which is running a Windows OS, you may need to turn this off.

• Anti-aliasing: This is a process of smoothing text so that it is less jagged. LogPlot offers these options:
• • Choose None (default) to not apply anti-aliasing to text when displayed in your logs.
  • Choose Anti-Aliased to apply traditional smoothing to the text in your logs.
  • Choose ClearType to apply Microsoft ClearType Antialiasing to the text in your logs.
