Select the LAS File to Import

Time: 2 minutes

If you have done any of the other tutorial lessons, you're probably familiar with the two main initial windows in LogPlot: the Data Editor and the Log Designer.

  1. Click on the Data Editor tab to bring it to the front. If you have just started up the LogPlot program, the tab itself will probably be labeled "Untitled" as shown below. If you have been working in the program already it may display an actual file name.

  2. Create a new data window by selecting File | New Empty Editor. The program will create a new data file, named "untitled". You can access this file at any time by clicking on its stick-up tab that's labeled "Untitled."
  3. Click on the Data Editor's File menu, near the upper-left corner of the program window, and choose the Import option. From the pop-up menu choose the LAS option.

The program will display the LAS Import window.

  4. Enter the prompted settings:

LAS File Name: Click on the open-file button on the right side of this prompt. Select the file named "Sample.las" in the LogPlot "Samples" folder (in Documents\LogPlot 8 Data\) and click the Open button to open it.

The program will read the sample LAS file. It will load the header information in the lower pane of the window.

Insert check-marks in the header fields shown above; they will end up in the Edit-Text datasheet.

  5. Click the Next button to proceed.
