RockWorks | Utilities | Grid Editor | View | Plot Contours
Although the Grid Editor automatically color-codes the nodes based on their Z-values, with lowest values in pink and highest in red (a cold-to-hot scheme), it can also be helpful to plot reference contour lines on the screen display.
Step-by-Step Summary
- Set the contour interval to be used clicking in the Contours prompt box and entering the Z-value interval for the contour lines. Click on the Color item to select the color for the screen contours.
! Tip: If you don’t know the Z-value range for the grid file, choose the Grid Editor’s View | Model Statistics menu command.
- Click on the Contours button (below) or select the View | Plot Contours menu command.

- The program will draw contour lines on top of the Grid Map.
- To remove the contour lines, simply click on the Redraw button or select the View | Redraw option.
- If you need to change the color or the contour interval, return to the Contours option along the left and make the necessary changes. The program will remove the contours automatically, so click the Contours button again to re-draw them with the changes invoked.
This tool does not create a plottable map showing the contour lines. See the Map | Grid-Based Map option for a tool that will create a map of an existing grid model.
