Import the Well Construction Types from a LogPlot Keyword Table

If you've created a new project in RockWorks, have imported borehole data from LogPlot, or are in the midst of working on a project, you can bring in the Well Construction Types from the keyword table used in LogPlot (RockWare's log-plotting program). The imported material types will be appended to any existing entries in the current table. (See also Importing LogPlot Data.)

! Note that you should import lithology-related keywords from LogPlot into the Lithology Types Table, and well-construction-related keywords into the Well Construction Type Table.

  1. Open your project's Well Construction Type Table. It may or may not yet contain any information.

  2. Select the File | Import from LogPlot Keys option.
  3. Browse for the LogPlot keyword file to be imported, accessing other folders as necessary. (If you don't know where the keyword file is, launch LogPlot and click on the Options | Program Files option. This will list the location of the keyword, pattern, and symbol files used by LogPlot.)
  4. Select the name of the keyword file containing the information to be imported as well construction types and click OK.

RockWorks will read the contents of the file and append it to the end of the current list.

  5. If there are any duplicate material names (it is not a case-sensitive match), you'll see a window that looks like this:

  6. Choose what to do:
Use Current Database Value: Click on this button to skip the imported version and keep the material's settings as they currently exist in the database.
Replace with Imported Name: Click this button to replace the current Borehole Database version of the material with the imported version.
Do this for all cases where the keyword already exists: Insert a check in this box if all duplicates are to be handled in this manner.
  7. Make your desired editing changes to the Table. (See Editing the Well Construction Type Table.)
  8. Click OK when the table is displayed to your satisfaction.

Because LogPlot keyword tables can contain dozens of terms, you should remove those that don't exist in your project. Extraneous material types will result in needlessly long diagram legends.
