The Symbol Editor lets you build new symbols by importing the symbol design from an existing symbol in the current library. This is done using the Editor's Import button.
- As with creating a new symbol, you need to start with a blank Design Template in order to import the existing symbol. This can be done in two ways:
- Bring up a blank symbol into the Symbol Editor. This is done by selecting a blank symbol sample back within the Select Symbol dialog box, and choosing the Edit button, or
- OR -
- Within the Symbol Editor itself, use the Clear button to clear the Design Template of the currently displayed symbol.
- Then, click the Import button in the Symbol Editor window. The program will prompt you for the index number of the symbol design to be imported.
- Type in the number of the symbol whose design is to be displayed in the Editor, and choose OK.
- If you don't know the index number, you can select the Cancel button twice to return to the Select Symbol window. Once there, you can either view the index number of the active symbol at the top of the dialog box, or you can print a symbol index.
- When you have entered the index number, that symbol will be displayed in the Design Template in the Editor window.
- Insert dots or lines as you need to complete your new symbol. (See Drawing Symbols.)
- Exit the Symbol Editor using the OK button (to save the new symbol) or using the Cancel button (to discard the new symbol).
- You will be returned to the Select Symbol window.
