Import an existing pattern design

The Pattern Editor lets you build new patterns by importing the pattern design from an existing pattern in the current pattern file. This is done using the Editor's Import button.

As with creating a new pattern, you need to start with a blank Unit Cell in order to import the existing pattern. This can be done in two ways:

  1. Bring up a blank pattern into the Pattern Editor. This is done by selecting a blank pattern sample back within the Select Pattern window and choosing the Edit button:

Or, to replace an existing pattern with the imported design, choose a pattern, click Edit, the delete the design items.

  2. Then, click the Import button in the Pattern Editor window.

LogPlot will prompt you for the index number of the pattern design to be imported.

  3. Type in the number of the pattern whose design is to be displayed in the Editor, and choose OK.

If you don't know the index number, you can select the Cancel button twice to return to the Select Pattern window. Once there, you can either view the index number of the active pattern at the top of the dialog box, or you can print a pattern index.

When you have entered the index number, that pattern will be displayed in the Unit Cell in the Editor window.

  4. Insert dots or lines as you need to complete your new pattern. (See Drawing Patterns.)
  5. Exit the Pattern Editor using the OK button (to save the new pattern) or using the Cancel button (to discard the new pattern).
