The data smoother operates with data in a Point Data (i.e. "Curves") or Interval Data datasheet only, and is used to "smooth" out numeric data values by averaging them with a user-specified number of neighboring data values.
! This tool will smooth a single column of values in the active datasheet; you can choose a different column for recording of the smoothed measurements.
- Click on the tab of the Point Data or Interval Data datasheet to be manipulated, to make it active.
- Right-click in any of the cells within the datasheet.
- Select the Columns option from the displayed menu, and then choose Smooth from the pop-up menu.
- In the displayed window, enter the requested information.
- Column: From the upper drop-down list, choose the name of the column in the current datasheet that contains the numeric values to be manipulated.
- Filter size: Click the down-arrow button to select the filter size. A filter size of "3" means that each data value will become the average of itself and the value above it and below it (averaging 3 values). A filter size of "5" means that each data value will become the average of itself and the 2 values above it and 2 values below it (an average of 5 values). And so on.
- Decimals: Click the up- or down-arrow button to set the number of decimal places to be represented in the smoothed values.
- Output: Here, select the name of the output column into which the smoothed values are to be listed. If you don't wish to overwrite the original data values and don't have a blank data column, you'll need to add a new column to your Multi-Curve or Multi-Interval Data tab. See Add, Delete, and Rename Columns for information.
- Click OK.
LogPlot will perform the smoothing operation and store the values in the requested column.
