The data smoother operates with data in a Point Data (i.e. "Curves") or Interval Data datasheet only, and is used to remove low and/or high out data values, re-assigning them a threshold minimum or maximum. This can be helpful if you are importing data sets with very high or low "null" values, or if you suspect recording error.
! This tool will filter a single column of values in the active datasheet, storing the filtered values back in the same column.
- Click on the tab of the Point Data or Interval Data datasheet to be manipulated, to make it active.
- Right-click in any of the cells within the tab.
- Select the Columns command from the displayed menu, and then choose Filter from the pop-up menu.
- In the displayed window, enter the requested information.
- Column: From the upper drop-down list, choose the name of the column in the current datasheet that contains the data values to be filtered.
- High-Pass/Low-Stop: Insert a check here if you wish to filter out low values from the data column ("stopping" them), and type in the lowest acceptable value for the data values in the prompt to the right.
- Low-Pass/High Stop: Insert a check here if you wish to filter out high values from the data column ("stopping" them). Type in the highest acceptable value in the prompt to the right.
- You can activate both filters.
- Click OK.
LogPlot will scan the data values in the requested column and determine which fall below the Low Stop filter (if activated) and/or above the High-Stop filter (if activated). Any such values will be-reassigned the Low-Stop or High-Stop filter threshold values.
