The Data Editor's Log menu contains two tools for interactively compiling a single log or multiple logs from currently-open data files. The compiled logs are displayed in a Plot window on the screen, where you can select menu items for saving, printing, and exporting the graphic log.
The Log menu’s Batch Compile command lets you select multiple data files to compile. For each file, you can select a specific log design, plotting scale, and other items. Each compiled log can be printed and/or saved on disk as a LogPlot (.LPT8) file.
! This is a different process than the "Command Line Batch" which is also available for LogPlot. First, the menu-driven batch compiler lets you create the batch listing right within a program window. And, multiple files can be saved and printed. The menu-driven batch compiler does not offer screen display of the compiled logs. For more information about the command line batch process, please visit the RockWare website.

- Select the Data Editor window's Log | Batch Compile menu option.
LogPlot will display the Batch Compile window.
- Select the Add button to add a new action to the listing.
The program will now display the Batch Editor window where you can specify file names and settings for the new batch item.
- Data File: Click the browse button on the right side of this prompt to select the name of the LDAT8 data file to be compiled.
- Top Depth, Bottom Depth: These will be automatically populated based on the values stored in the data file's BH Info datasheet. You may override these if necessary.
- Log Design File: This will default to the name of the file currently displayed in the Log Designer window. If you want to choose a different log design, click the browse button on the right side of the prompt and select the name of the LDXF8 file to be used.
- Scale: This will default to the scale last used when you compiled a single log. It represents the number of depth units in your data file to be plotted per inch or centimeter on the graphic log. See Set the Vertical Scale for more information.
- Continuous: Check this box if the log is to be plotted as a continuous log. Leave this unchecked for page breaks. See Establish Page Settings for more information.
- Title Page, First Page, Middle Page, Last Page: Use these settings to define whether an initial title page is to be plotted, and which headers and footers are to be used for this log. See Establish Page Settings for details.
- Print: Check this box if you want the log to be printed upon completion. If activated, the log graphic will be printed on the printer currently defined as default
- Save as LPT8 File: Check this box if you want the log to be saved as an LPT8 file upon completion. If activated, click the small browse button to the right of the prompt to type in the name to assign to the LPT8 file.
- Export PDF: Check this box if you want the log to be exported to a PDF file upon completion. If activated, click the small browse button to the right of the prompt to type in the name to assign to the PDF file.
- Output Resolution (DPI): Type the resolution for the PDF file into this prompt. The default is 600
- Display: Insert a check here if you want the PDF file to be displayed on the screen upon completion.
- When you've established all of the necessary settings, click the OK button to add this log to the batch listing.
- Back at the Batch Compile window, to add another log to the listing, click the Add button and repeat the above steps.
LogPlot lets you save the information in the current batch listing in a file for later retrieval.
- Use the Save button in the Batch Compile window to save the current listing of logs to a LogPlot8 Batch file.
- When prompted, type in the name to assign to this LogPlot8 Batch file. These files have the file name extension "BTC8".
- Use the Load button in the Batch Compile window to load a listing from an existing LogPlot8 Batch file for editing or running.
- When prompted, browse for the name of the existing BTC8 file to load into the editor.
! LogPlot8 does not support LogPlot7 batch files (.BTC).
- In the Batch Compile window, click on the item to be edited to select it.
- Click the Edit button. Logplot will load this listing into the Batch Editor window. (You can also simply double-click on the item to load it into the Editor.)
- Make the desired editing changes.
- Click OK to close the Editor window. You'll be returned to the Batch Compile window.
- In the Batch Compile window, click on the item to be edited to select it.
- Click the Delete button. Logplot will prompt you to confirm the deletion.
- Click Yes to delete the log listing from the batch, or click No to cancel the deletion.
- When you are ready to process the batch, click on the Compile Logs button at the bottom of the Batch Compile window.
LogPlot will start with the first data file in the list, and compile it into the requested LDFX8 file at the indicated scale, with the specified page settings. (All other possible settings are assumed to be the current program defaults.) The completed log plot will be sent to the printer and/or saved on disk and/or exported to PDF as requested.
If another item is listed in the batch, the program will process it next.
