Open a Sample Log Design

Time: 2 minutes

We’ve put snapshots of the log designs that are shipped with the program into the LogPlot Help messages; let's open these so you’ll know where to start when looking for your own log design to use.

  1. Click on the Help menu at the top of the main LogPlot program window.
  2. Choose the Contents option. The program will open the LogPlot Help system in your default browser.
  3. In the contents listing in the left pane, expand the "Reference" chapter, and then open the "Sample Log Designs and Data Files" chapter. Click on the "Environmental/Geotechnical log designs" topic that’s shown there.

Here you’ll see small snapshots of the environmental/geotechnical log designs that are shipped with the program. Each snapshot has a "see bigger" link to display a larger image. We’ll be modifying the "Enviro-geotech2" design.

    Now let’s open this design.

  4. Click on the Design tab to bring the Log Designer window to the front.

  5. Open the LogPlot "Samples" folder into the Project Manager: (Skip to the next step if the ..Documents\LogPlot Data\Samples folder is currently displayed at the top of the Project Manager, as shown in the picture above).

Click on the current project name, at the top of the Project Manager pane, and select the LogPlot Data\Samples folder. If this is not listed, then click on the Browse option and browse for that, in your Documents folder.

You should see a listing of a number of data, design, and plot files.

  6. Locate the LogDesign file named "Enviro-geotech2.LDFX8," under the LogDesign heading, and double-click on it.

The program will display this log design in the Design window.

  7. Use the Visible Sections check-boxes to be sure the Log Body pane is visible, and drag the header/body/footer pane dividers as necessary to see the log body items.
