Step 1: Get organized
The first step in exporting your LogPlot data files to RockWorks is to get organized. Be sure that:
- All of the LogPlot DAT files reside in the same folder on your computer.
Many of our users create a new folder and then copy their DAT files into that folder. This not only gets all of the DAT files into the same directory, it also sets up the import using copies of your original working files. Not necessary, but it never hurts to play it safe.
- All of the LogPlot DAT files contain the same suite of data tabs.
During the import, you'll select one of the DAT files to serve as the import template for RockWorks. You should be sure that you know which of your DAT files contains representative datasheets which can serve as the 'master' file.
- Be sure the SETUP tab in each LogPlot data file contains the well’s X Y location and the Z coordinate or elevation at the top of the borehole. During import you can specify what these coordinates represent, and if necessary they'll be converted into the project coordinate system.
If you don’t have this information defined in the SETUP tab, the borings will import into RockWorks, but you’ll need to be sure to enter/import the well locations in the RockWorks Location table after import.
