RockWorks | Utilities | Solid | Export | Solid -> Groundwater Vistas Zone File
Lithology models (or other block models composed of a limited number of "g" values defining material type) can be used to define zones in a Groundwater Vistas MODFLOW model. In order to do this, you need to:
- create a Groundwater Vistas Model File (.gwv file) that falls inside the extents of your RockWorks project
- create a Groundwater Vistas Discretization File (.disrw file) for import into RockWorks
- make sure that the RockWorks discrete-value (e.g. lithology) solid model (*.RwMod) has been created

- Discretization File: Click to the right to browse for the name of the Discretization file (.disrw) that you created in Groundwater Vistas.
- Solid Model: Click to the right to browse for the name of the lithology model (.RwMod file) that you want to use to define the zones in Groundwater Vistas. Typically this will be a lithology model, with voxel nodes assigned specific values representing material types (e.g. "1" = sand, "2" = gravel, etc.). This could also be a solid model representing stratigraphy layers or other materials.
- Filter Method: If multiple blocks from the .RwMod file fall inside a MODFLOW model cell, the program will use this filter method to assign a value to that cell. Choose from a number of different interpolation algorithms by clicking in its radio button.
- Zone File Output: Click to the right to enter a name for the file that RockWorks create. It will have a .RwZone file extension.
Step-by-Step Summary
This program requires that a RockWorks-format solid model representing material types already exists.
- Access the RockWorks Utilities datasheet.
- Select the Solid | Export | Solid -> Groundwater Vistas Zone File menu option.
- Enter the requested menu options, described above.
- Click the Process button at the bottom of the window to create the .RwZone file.
- In Groundwater Vistas, go to Props, and select the Property for which you want to import the Zone data. This will typically be Hydraulic Conductivity, but could be any type of data that is stored as zones.
- Then, go to Props | Import | RockWorks Zone file.
- Choose the .RwZone file that you created above.
This will assign a zone to each cell for the Property that is current selected (as displayed in the image at the top of this topic).
