The File | Transfer | Stratigraphy -> Borehole Manager program is used to transfer in bulk a list of stratigraphic elevations from the RockWorks datasheet to the Borehole Manager's "Stratigraphy" table. This is not meant to be a means of entering raw stratigraphic data, but instead as a means of modifying data that has already been brought over from the Borehole Manager for editing purposes.
It is required that the stratigraphic data in the datasheet be listed in the following order so that it will transfer properly to the Borehole Manager’s Stratigraphy table. If you don’t have all formations for all borings, that’s ok, they’ll just be left blank. Columns 1 – 5 are required. The transfer assumes vertical boreholes.
- Column 1: Borehole Name: This field is required so that the data can be matched to existing boreholes (cross-checking the Name field in the Location table) or new boreholes created as necessary.
- Columns 2 and 3: Easting and Northing: These specify the borehole locations, and will be posted to the Easting and Northing fields of the Location table if necessary.
- Column 4: Elevation: These represent the surface elevations at the boreholes, and will be posted to the Elevation fields in the Location table if necessary.
- Column 5: Symbol (and color): These symbols will be posted to the Symbol field in the Location table if necessary. *
- Column 6 and 7: First formation’s top and base: These represent the elevations at the top and base of the first formation listed in the current Borehole Manager Stratigraphy Types Table. This can be left blank for any borehole where the formation is not present. The Stratigraphy Types must already be defined for the transfer to happen successfully.
- Columns 8 and 9 (and so on): Next formation top and base: These are elevations at the top and base of the next formations listed in the current Stratigraphy Types Table.
* In RockWorks, symbols and colors are actually stored in the data files (in both the Borehole Manager and the Datasheet) as integer numbers separated by a forward slash character. In the datasheet, unless the column is set to a "symbol" column, you may see these integers rather than graphic symbols. To change the symbols to a graphic display just right-click on the column heading and set the Data Type to Symbol.
