When plotted using Normal Profile, looking toward the north, here is how the log looks. Note the inset of the log in 3D, viewed toward the north.
The following example illustrates the differences. Consider the borehole depicted in 3D within Figure 1. A projection into a vertical plane that is oriented N0E results in the diagram shown within Figure 2. Notice how the Figure 2 diagram becomes garbled where the log projects over itself. There is simply no way to produce a projected section that does not have this problem (at least with this extreme example). Conversely, the diagram depicted within Figure 3 shows how the "unwind" option can be used to show the entire log without any overlap.
Note: The unwinding process always deviates the log (varies the inclination) to the right of the borehole collar.
