RockWorks | Utilities | Grid Editor | View | Points
As you are editing a grid model, it can be helpful to plot reference control point locations on the screen display.
! This program requires that you have open in the RockWorks Datasheet an .RwDat file that lists the control point X, Y, and Z coordinates from which the current grid model was created.
- If the grid model was created using ModOps | Grid | Create, the original data was probably stored as an .RwDat file.
- If the grid model was created in the Borehole Manager, you can transfer the original data to the Datasheet for use with this program, using several methods:
- For elevations at the top of the well, use the Borehole Manager's File | Locations -> Datasheet option to transfer Location tab data to the datasheet.
- For stratigraphic elevations, use the Borehole Manager's File | Export | Stratigraphy program to export the data to the datasheet.
- For water level data, use the Borehole Manager's File | Export | Aquifer program to export water level data to the datasheet.
- Click on the Points button at the top of the window, or select the View | Points menu command.
- In the window that's displayed, specify the Input Columns:
- X (Easting): Select the name of the column in the current datasheet that contains the X location coordinates for the points to be plotted.
- Y (Northing): Select the name of the column that contains the Y location coordinates for the points.
- Z (Elevation): Use this prompt to select the column that contains the Z value represented in the current grid model. This will be used if you activate the Plot Labels option, below.
- Plot Symbols: Insert a check here to activate the plotting of the control point symbols in the grid editor. The program will position the points based on the Input Columns you've defined, above.
- Size (pixels): Choose the pixel size for the symbols (default = 4).
- Line Thickness (pixels): Choose the thickness for the symbols' lines (default = 1).
- Color: Click here to choose a color for the symbols, as they will be displayed on the grid editor screen.
- Type of Symbol: Choose the symbol shape by clicking in the appropriate radio button.
- Plot Labels: Insert a check here to include labels in the grid editor.
- Content:
- Original Control Point Z Values: Choose this option if the labels are to contain the Z (Elevation) input data, defined above.
- Residual: Choose this option if the labels are to represent the original Z values minus the grid node value at that location.
- Corresponding Grid Node Value: Choose this option to represent the grid node value at the control point location.
- Font Size (pixels): Choose the pixel size for the control point labels (default = 8).
- Decimal places: Click here to define the number of decimal places to display in the labels.
- Label Offset (pixels): Use these settings to define the offset of the labels from the center of the symbols. (defaults = 5, 5) A positive offset will place the label above / to the right of the symbol; a negative offset will place the label below / to the left of the symbol.
- Background Color: Click here to select the background color for the label text.
- Click the Process button to accept these settings.
You will be returned to the Grid Editor, with the requested symbols and/or labels displayed.

This tool does not create a plottable map showing control point locations. See the Map | Point Symbols program to create a map of point locations.
