View, Save, and Export the Sample Log

  Time: 2 minutes

  1. If necessary, click the Fit to Page button in the View Options pane to re-fit the lithology log to a single page. (If you don't see this pane, choose View | Show View Options.)
  2. Save this log by clicking on the Save toolbar button , or select the Save As command from the LogView File menu.
  3. In the displayed window, type in the file name: Lithology1.lpt8     and click the Save button.

LogPlot stores graphic logs as Log Plot Files (LPT8). In these files are stored the log's graphic items, the plotting scale, and the paper size and orientation at which it was compiled. This means that you can open this LPT8 file at a later time, and it will be displayed at its compiled scale and paper setup.

Tip: You can create and email PDF files to your clients, and they can view and print your log. See a later tutorial for details.

  4. Export this log to a PNG file by selecting the File | Export | PNG menu option.
  5. In the displayed window, enter the requested information:

Note that the scale, shown above in yellow, will match the scale in the View Options pane. The value you see in the export window may be different than this example shows.

  6. Click OK to continue.

LogPlot will save the graphic log in a PNG format, under the name "Lithology1.png". The PNG file will be displayed on the screen in whatever program is set up on your computer to display these files.

  7. Close the PNG file.
  8. Back at LogPlot8, close the Log View window.
