Import a LogPlot7 Data File

The format of LogPlot data files has changed between LogPlot7 and LogPlot8, with the new format being XML based and supporting Unicode, formatting, and more. LogPlot7 data files used the file name extension ".dat". LogPlot8 data files use the extension ".ldat8".

To open a LogPlot7 data file, follow these steps:

  1. Open a project folder into the LogPlot Project Manager.
  2. Expand the Data Files heading, and the LogPlot 7 Data Files (.dat) sub-heading.
  3. Double-click on the name of the .dat file you wish to open. The program will read the file and update it to the new LogPlot8 data format.
  4. LogPlot will display a message, "This file has been converted to a LogPlot 8 format. Do you want to save it now?"

Click Yes to have the program save the file in the current Project Folder with the same name, but with the new file name extension. For example "MW-1.dat" would be saved as "MW-1.ldat8".

Click No if you prefer to manually save the new file with a different name and/or in a different location. Select the File | Save As menu option to save the updated file under the name and in the location of your choice.

  1. Click in an existing Data Editor window or (if none are open) create a new Data Editor window.
  2. In that Data Editor window, click on the File menu and select the Import | LogPlot7 Dat File menu option.

The program will display a prompt window in which you may specify the file to open. The default file type will be .dat.

  3. Select the file you wish to open (accessing other drives or directories as necessary) by clicking on the name to highlight it.
  4. Click on the Open button. The program will read the file and update it to the new LogPlot8 data format.
  5. LogPlot will then display a message, "This file has been converted to a LogPlot 8 format.
