The required format for data being imported into LogPlot from Excel is identical to the format of LogPlot data exported to Excel. Note the following general requirements for the Excel file to be imported into LogPlot8:
- The file must be an XLS or XLSX file compatible with Microsoft Excel.
- It can contain any/all of the available worksheets which can be imported, though only the SETUPGRD worksheet is required and must contain data. You do not need to include blank worksheets.
- The worksheet titles in Excel must be identical to those shown in the examples.
- The file structure for importing multiple boreholes is slightly different than for a single borehole - all of the worksheets will require an initial "Bore" column to identify the borehole to which the data pertains, and the SETUPGRD worksheet will list multiple borehole names. See the topics below for details.
Tip: For a quick overall view of how to set up this Excel file, try exporting one of the sample LDAT8 data files, such as those installed with the program in My Documents\LogPlot 8\Samples, to an Excel file, using the Data Editor's File | Export | Excel menu option. The exported file will display the required format of the imported file.
General formatting notes:
- The heading lines are required, and the columns must be in the order listed. For worksheets with a fixed number of columns (such as Lithology), the spelling of the header labels is not important. However, for those worksheets with a variable number of columns - Point Data, Interval Data, Interval Text, etc. - the spelling is important because LogPlot will use these for the column names in the resulting LDAT8 file.
- Excel limits worksheet names to 31 characters. If your LogPlot entity names are fairly long, they may indeed exceed this limit, when combined with the data type flag. Consider using short entity names.
- The _name field shown in the examples is used to assign a name to the datasheet in LogPlot and will be displayed on the datasheet's tab.
- Depths should be entered as positive values (increasing downhole).
- Colors are listed using the very large color palette in Windows. See below for an index to 16 main colors. Note that you can set the color codes to 0 for black and select the color interactively in the LogPlot data editor.
