Compile the Sample Data File

Time: 1 minute

  1. You are ready to compile! Click on the Compile button. (Other methods: Select Log | Create a Log, or type Ctrl+L.)
  2. LogPlot will display a window where you can establish the log compiling settings.

Log Template: This will default to the name of the file open in the Design tab.

Top of Interval, Bottom of Interval: These will be the top-to-bottom depth range for the log. They are extracted directly from the data files' BH Info datasheet. In your own work, this is where you can override the defaults to specify a subset of the entire log be created.

Scale: This determines how long the log will be. It represents the number of depth units output per inch (or cm) on the compiled log.
For this log, be sure the Scale is set to 50 and the units are per Inch.

Page Breaks: Choose this option. This tells LogPlot to plot a header and footer on each page if your log has multiple pages.

Headers/Footers: Select the options shown in the example above.

Click here for a more detailed explanation of the compile window.

  3. Click the Process button at the bottom to compile the log.

    LogPlot will:

The Log View window is used to display compiled logs, save them on disk, export them, and print them.

  4. Use the scroll bar along the right side of the View window to scroll downward through the log pages. You may see that, at the current scale, the log flows over to a second page. Let's adjust the view settings to fit the data onto a single page.
  5. Click on the View menu above the log display, and select Show View Options. You will see a new pane with many of the compile settings you just established.
  6. In the Scale portion of the window, click the Fit to Page button. You should see that the Scale setting has been changed from "50" which you manually typed in the previous time, to a different number. This new value represents the units per inch which will fit the entirety of the log onto a single page.
  7. Click the Apply button at the bottom of the View Options pane.
  8. Leaving the View Options displayed, drag the left scroll bar downward to verify that the log now occupies one page.
  9. Feel free to experiment with these options; here are some ideas:

Tip: In your own work, you can quick-compile one or more data files using the Project Manager: Ctrl+click on multiple data file names, then right-click, and choose Compile Selected Data Files.
